If we have to name one chicken dish that is most popular in north India, it has to be butter chicken; everything else comes after. Among so many chicken dishes in Indian cuisine, butter chicken has been a perpetual winner, and we all know why. Succulent chicken pieces doused in a velvety gravy of butter and cream, makes for heavenly treat for non-vegetarians. The butter chicken that we usually order at restaurants or make at home is of a dense onion and tomato paste with a range of Indian spices. Here is a different version of butter chicken that slightly mellows down the ‘spicy’ and ‘tangy’ level of the traditional butter chicken and presents a whiter and creamier dish that is equally great.

This recipe video shows how to make white butter chicken at home. You have to first barbeque chicken pieces, then cook them on stove with garlic, green chillies, onion cashew paste, fenugreek leaves and fresh cream. Top it with butter, because that’s what this dish is popular for.

You can pair this creamy chicken with any Indian bread – naan, roti, paratha, roomali roti etc. This butter chicken is also relatively easy to make. With minimal ingredients and minimal spices, but a load of creaminess and lusciousness, this white butter chicken is a must-try.
