A food dehydrator is a simple machine used to dry different kinds of food. This is a great and efficient way to preserve food for later consumption. What’s really great about this is that it allows you to save money compared to buying already preserved foods from the store. It’s also a healthier food choice as foods preserved at home don’t have all the different preservatives food manufacturers use.

It’s very important for one to choose the right food dehydrator for his or her use. Finding the right features to cater to your needs will determine how convenient (or not) the dehydrator is to use.

The never-ending debate on whether a round or square food dehydrator is best has started a long time ago. Personally, it’s a matter of determining what you need in order to find out which of these you should get.

Space-wise, a square dehydrator is a better option. It’s shape will allow it to use every inch of a cabinet or a cupboard, unlike the round one which will leave some space unusable.

When it comes to looks, a lot of people prefer the round dehydrator. Well, it does look better especially in black. If you have a lot of space in the kitchen, you may want to consider going for this shape.

There is not a lot of difference between these two when it comes to wattage. This simply means they are almost the same when it comes to amount of electricity consumed. Of course, the efficiency is a different story. Because of the way it was designed, a square or a rectangle dehydrator allows faster dehydrating because of the way the warm air could be distributed. So although they consume the same amount of electricity, a square machine allows faster drying which means you’d need to use it for a significantly shorter time.

A square machine can also be used for a lot more other items. Not a lot of people realized that these machines can also be used for other things aside from food. If your husband gave you a rose for a special occasion, for instance, drying that rose and framing it is a great way to always remember that day. Now, a round food dehydrator wouldn’t really be able to accommodate the long stem, and chopping it off is not an option as well. With a square or a rectangle dehydrator, there would be no problem drying the flower as well as the stem.
