One such popular dish is bread roll. It is a much-loved deep dried snack-item made with breads and spicy and flavourful mashed potato stuffing. Available in almost every chai-tapri, bread roll is an ultimate delight, when paired with kadak masala chai. It can also be considered to be an ideal dish to beat those sudden and weird time cravings.

Here we bring you an authentic recipe of street-style bread roll that will surely remind you of your favourite chai-stall. You can further customise this recipe with vegetables, chicken slices etc to make it taste exotic. But trust us, the simpler the recipe is, the better the bread rolls taste!

Here’s The Step-By-Step Recipe For Street-Style Bread Roll:

Ingredients:

Bread- 4 slices

Boiled potato- 2-3 (medium size)

Onion- 1 (finely chopped)

Green chilli- 2 (finely chopped)

Coriander leaves- 1-2 tablespoon (chopped)

Roasted jeera powder- 2 teaspoon

Roasted dry red chilli powder- 1 teaspoon

Salt- as per taste

Lemon- 1

Oil- to fry

Method:

Mash the potatoes and add onion, green chilli, coriander leaves, jeera powder, red chilli powder, salt and lemon juice to it. Mix them well.

Take the breads and cut the sides of each slice using knife.

Now, take some water in a wide bowl, the bread slices on a plate and the mashed potatoes in a bowl and keep everything before you.

Take a slice of bread, lightly dip in the water and squeeze the excess water out by pressing the bread between your palms.

Add some mashed potato as filling on the moist bread and wrap the whole thing gently to form a cylindrical roll. Repeat the same with rest of the breads.

Rest the rolls for atleast 15 minutes to let them dry out a bit.

Now, heat enough amount of oil in a kadhai and deep fry the rolls until they turn crispy and golden brown in colour.

Transfer the bread rolls to a plate and absorb the excess oil with paper towel.

Serve them hot with ketchup or green chutney.

Pro-tip:

If you find the technique for making the rolls to be tough, then we have a simpler process for you. After moistening the breads, mash them with the potatoes and make cylindrical rolls out of the mix. Then cover the rolls with some bread crumbs and fry. You can make the bread crumbs with the cut-out sides of the bread slices.

Prepare it at home today and enjoy with a cup of piping hot masala chai. Happy snacking!
