Mumbaikars love their pav! The very thought of pav reminds us of vada pav, keema pav, pav bhaji and all the lip-smacking foods of the city. These small-sized breads, which somewhat look like burger buns, play an important role in Mumbai’s food culture. But did you know that pav has a history that goes back to Portuguese invasion in Goa? As per legends, this bread was introduced in Goa when Portuguese, who made a colony in the state, started missing their comfort food ‘pao’- soft and fluffy dinner rolls. It is then pav travelled upwards to Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra with the Goans, who were looking to make a living in Mumbai (then Bombay).
