The nationwide lockdown has turned our daily schedule upside down. Scores of people are working from home, and nobody is stepping out to dine, which could mean two things. You are either eating healthy, home-cooked meals or you are cooking only to satisfy your fast-food cravings. While cooking at home is a good idea anyday, but you need to be careful of what you are including in your plate. When it comes to diet, there are several dos and don’ts that you must take note of, whether you are working from home or office.

Here are some diet mistakes you should avoid during lockdown:

1. Carb overload

If you have stocked up your kitchen shelves with instant noodles, chips, and namkeen, you perhaps want to keep a track of carbs you are taking everyday. Excess carb consumption could lead to weight-gain. Also, carbs get digested too soon, leaving you hungry to soon, which compels you to reach out for another snack.

2. Not keeping count of liquid calories

Stocked up on cola drinks, fizzy sodas and store-bought juices? It would be a good idea to practice portion control. Most of these drinks are laden with calories; some even come with added sugar that could completely derail your weight-loss journey.

3. Eating no fruits

In the quest of grabbing the most delicious snack around, make sure you do not forget to have your fruits. Fresh, seasonal fruits are packed with antioxidants that could help boost your immunity, replenish your body with vital nutrients, keep your skin healthy and also keep calories in check.

4. Eating too much through the day

Between endless calls, lying back on your couch and staring at your laptop, we take multiple snack breaks. And while snacking is important as it helps fuel our body and energise us, excess snacking and unhealthy snacking may take a severe toll on our diet. It is also advisable to leave your laptop and take a small walk in between and engage in light physical activities.

5. Over-consumption of sugary goods

It is very easy to grab a cookie or chocolate bar, but it very tough to shed all those extra kilos. Sugar does no good for our body; excess sugar leads to fat accumulation, and this is the kind of fat that is not easy to lose.


6. Indulging in deep-fried oily goods

Deep fried bread pakodas, kachoris and pakodas should be reserved for special days; they cannot be your breakfast everyday, if you are willing to watch your weight through the lockdown.


Keep these points in mind and make sure you eat healthy and in moderation.
